Synopsis: Janani Murali presents her recent choreographic work Savitri- “Narratives of the Heart” for the first time in Cambridge. She brings to you an evening of Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance form taking the audience on a journey of rhythmic musical patterns, expressive mime and pure dance. Savitri, is story of a woman who outwits death to save the life of her husband. Janani draws parallels between the story of Savitri, the metaphorical plane that it assumes and how we as mortals look at mythology and philosophy. The format of the presentation is Dance- theatre; bringing together the language of Bharatanatyam and live narratives on stage.
The Artist: Janani Murali has trained in Bharatanatyam under the guidance of her mother Smt. Padma Murali for more than 25 years. An “A” grade artiste of Doordarshan and empaneled artiste of ICCR, she is currently the Associate Artistic Director of Padmalaya Dance Foundation and Executive Member, International Dance Alliance, Bangalore Chapter. The recipient of awards such as the Narthana Shironmani, Nalanda Nruthya Nipuna and Padmavati Puraskar, Janani takes her love for dance beyond performances.
